I will need users to help beta test the latest version of Civilization Sapphire on Thursday at 4:00pm PST (6:00pm CST).

Screenshots (that's plural) by request:

Version 1.0 to 1.2 Beta changes.

DISPLAY CHANGES:
  • When any building that provides resources or technology points is constructed, the player will receive feedback in the following format:
Constructed 3 out of 5 Naval Academies. This provides 600 technology points per turn.
  • When the player performs a task contrary to success, tips will now be displayed.
Example: If a player loses his Nexus...
Tip: Construct a Comsat Station to acquire more Probes if all of yours are lost.
Example: If player has killed zero ursadon and the timer reaches 45 seconds...
Tip: Hunting cows provides a powerful resource bonus.
Example: If player controls exactly zero zerglings AND has zero kill score...

I wasn't going to protect it at all, but doing so reduces the file size by 200% so whatever.

Perhaps I should have exploited this loophole instead:

Ah well, there's always next time. Variety is the spice of life after all.

Woah

That "loophole" would require a thread made before February 2008. If you've got an old production thread (which I couldn't find), you could use that instead.

I like your screenshots, you have some great intensity flowing in this thread and that really gives me the impression that this map will be of high quality.

By popular request (aka Norm and simsizzle) I present you screenshots of epic battles, fishing, and other such things.

One wonders if this thread more properly belongs in the Map Showcase forum. Forums... ah ha ha!

I think you mean a thread dated before Februrary 2008.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings
[2026-6-20. : 6:15 pm]
Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.
[2026-6-20. : 3:43 pm]
NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
