So, I'm a HUGE fan of RTS (and a little bit of TBC), and am looking for more computer RTS games. I already own a bunch ranging from Sins of a Solar Empire to Starcraft to Rise of Nations. Any good and/or new ones that I may have not heard about or played?

The ones from Westwood, like command and conquer, Dune?

Red classic.

Company of Heroes? I kind of like it, it incorporates a cover-kind of system with your infantry units, it's kinda cool really. It's sort of like squad-based combat + RTS with the infantry units. Really I just love using the infantry in that game, not too fond of the vehicles and tanks.

SupCom, but you've probably already get that. I second Company of Heroes. It's great. Tales of Valor's only 20 or 30 bucks, which includes all 4 factions for online play and 3 short campaigns.

Do you have DoW series? Age of Empire series?

Age of Empires II is the second best RTS ever made imo. It got good graphics (for a 2D RTS that is) and good gameplay. Only downside is that it's a bit slow.
You could try out World in Conflict. It doesn't include any building though; you just call in reinforcements.
Supreme Commander got pretty good reviews when it was released. Haven't played it very much as I found it a bit confusing.

Sort of off-topic, but you can mod SC to create new RTS games. There's lots of good mods already available. If you're bored of SC, you could look into some of the mods.

EDIT: Genesis Rising also looks good. It's only $20.

I'll give you two ideas for now. More later if I can be bothered to look through my collection. :P

Ground Control - Real Time Tactical game. You have a limited number of units which you drop into a combat zone in dropships and complete objectives with. Can be quite difficult but leaves enough room for error for the game to appeal to regular strategy gamers.

Hostile Waters - I love this game. It's a Real Time Strategy/Tactics/Third Person Shooter hybrid which works really well. Good story and excellent voice acting (Tom Baker is the narrator), with challenging gameplay.

Basically, you control an advanced warship called Antaeus which uses nanomachines to assemble various vehicles to complete mission objectives. You can either control the vehicles yourself or assign a 'soulcatcher' chip to each one. Each chip contains the mind of a dead soldier with his own personality, strengths and weaknesses. Ransom, for example, is an excellent helicopter pilot with quite an attitude, and he will complain if you put him in a ground unit. You can always override the AI chip and take control of any unit personally if you need to, which is where the third person shooter element comes in. You can also design the various vehicles in the game to fulfil specific roles - you choose the chassis, weapon and other extra modules. For example, for close air support early in the game you might choose the Hornet Light Attack Helicopter chassis, arm it with the Scalpel minigun, add extra armour and assign Ransom. The customisation allows you to create vehicles suitable for long-range demolitions, anti-air, repairs, harvesting and other roles.

I highly recommend it.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.
[2026-6-20. : 3:43 pm]
NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
