I got a similar problem with a Dell. All of a sudden, the devices wouldn't show up anywhere in Windows. I tried to install the drivers (which were crazy hard to find for a 5 year old Dell), and it tells me I don't have the hardware installed. One fresh install of Windows later, and everything works fine again. Maybe a virus, maybe not, one mystery I'm going to leave unsolved.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.
