I'm just a fish

Where can I find MPQ Compiler? IE: The program when you copy and paste a mod folder in it, it converts it into a .mpq file, then opens up MPQ Draft, which (Cant find the right word) the .mpq file, then loads your mod.

And also, I did a two-hour search for this, and found, pretty much the opposite of what I need.

EDIT: Or if anyone knows anything related to MPQ Compiler, don't hesitate to tell me.

Do you mean WinMPQ? Look in the Database for the mod tools package.

No, WinMPQ lets you open up MPQ files, I need a program that converts Mod Folders into MPQ files.

Drag files into WinMPQ to add them into the .mpq. >.>

Are you talking about MPQ Compactor?

If so: here it is.

No one uses that outdated javascript encoded program made by BSTRhino. Just drag and drop into WinMPQ.

That's not what he wants. I'm almost 100% sure he wants MPQ Compactor.

MPQ compactor is the way to go according to Pandut's request. As a heads up, there are known issues when using Firegraft with MPQ compactor, so using WinMPQ is generally a better idea.

Yea, that's what I meant, not MPQ Compiler. Also, Thanks for the link :)

Well, when I was still modding, I always used MPQ Compacter and had next to no problems.

PyMS and ProTRG developer

Yeah... because you wern't using firegraft like FlyingHat said... MPQ Compacter creates an MPQ with only enough slots to hold what you have in the folder you drag on it. If you try to add more files to it there are no slots, which is why FG cant be used with them.

she/her

I am quite sure that the MPQ Compactor works with Firegraft. Or the other way around.

Normally, I use MPQ Compactor to compile an MPQ, then I open FireGraft, make my edits, and then Save As with my custom MPQ.

I mean, am I doing something wrong? So many people have complaints with it when it comes to large batches of files, but perhaps I simply haven't hit the limit yet.

Mar 13 2009, 5:09 pm Fyrinite Post #13

It's a special case with MPQCompactor, when you get just the right number of files in the first pass. What it does is set the number of files the mpq is supposed to hold, and if you try to add more than that, it won't work. FG adds a good number of files...so it can create a bit of a problem.

And then there's the problem that you can't increase the number of files that an existing archive is capable of storing. Once you reach that limit, you have to create a new archive from scratch to increase the limit, re-adding all of the files. If you are creating it with WinMPQ, for example, you can instead set the limit to what you think you will need, rather than just what will be needed to add your current files.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
