How do you remove background music?

Currently, I'm facing issues on how to remove the background music from a song, so that I could use its 'vocals' for my map. Does anyone have any idea how to the background music?
Right now, I'm using Wavepad as my audio editor.

Can you upload it in .mp3? My guess is you will have to take out portions of the song one by one using some fancy software. It can be done, but it would probably be easier to just find the vocals online or from iTunes in a karaoke version of the song.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

audacity can filter out noise, but it doesn't work well.

If you would upload it in some sort of workable format like mp3 or wav I would try and do it for you. Although I can play that file in wma, I can't get any of my music software to even recognize it.

In audacity, the best way to remove vocals from lyrics is by splitting a stereo track into two monaural tracks, and then inversing one of them, and rejoining the tracks. I don't know if that'd help, but I assume removing music would work similarly. (This is assume the vocals are mixed across both tracks, and the instruments differ on by sides.)

theres this program that our band's sound guy uses on his MAC that shows the song information in 5 different displays

one of them has somthing that looks like a heat graph that has all the frequencies playing at one time. Its a timeline and a pitch graph. So it'll show all the high notes, ususally the melody or vocals, and below it has harmonies and then lower it has bass stuff. Only thing is that it doesnt show volume, which u can still edit, just not as easy in this view

its a very powerful program. infact, we were messing with led zeppelins: how the west was one, a live album, and on stairway to heaven u can distinctly hear a scream at the beginning, and we could completely eliminate it while still leaving all the other stuff behind to listen to. i dont think it would be hard to use it to extract a vocal line off of a peice of music

i dont remeber the name of it tho, but i bet u could do a quick search for it

I've totally heard of that, I think I saw it in a technology magazine I was like, 'OH BOOYAH, I CAN GO SAMPLE SHIT WITH EASE NOW!'

Its really nifty stuff.

Just Here For The Pie

I do not know why you would want to put this into a game, but I managed to make the file cleaner. It sounds less like a microphone recording now. I also, sort of, removed some of the background music, but I failed to remove it all. Courteously, I deleted the first and last wasted seconds of you moving the microphone to and from the source of the sound.

It is mp3 now, I am sure you can find a Mac user that is better than me at editing stuff out.

It will be available until the end of February if anyone else wants to try to remove the background music.

No, you need Mac OS X, which you do not need a Mac for.
