if not lockdown, can it be ensnare, parasite, broodling, optical flare, or ANY spell(excluding yamato gun)?

I just want a weapon to carry a spell AND do damage at the same time...

None.

Hello

I think theres no way to do dmg with those spells in datedit....

I think you should change the scriptings... that may work

Easy. Iscript. "Useweapon" in the attack animation, refer to the ID of a spell in Weapons.dat. Just be aware that the projectile needs to be set to "Appear on Target".

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

You "do" iscript by modifying the iscript.bin file with either Ice or IceCC.
I personally recommend IceCC, though.

What you're to do is:
1. Find the unit entry iscript and find its attacking animation. It should be UnitGndAttkInit or something like it.
2. Add the "useweapon" op code followed by the weapon ID you want it to "shoot". You can look at the weapon ID on weapons.dat. Additionally to watch the formatting of this op code you can open an spell casting unit iscript and see how it is done.
3. Save your changes of iscript.bin into a MPQ and you should be able to do it.

You'll have to get used to the interface of IceCC but it's really easy to use. The "hard" part is the scripting itself that it really isn't hard.

fuck you all

Just so you're not confused, these are all the same thing -- to an extent. All unit scripts (in the unit category) are in the flingy category, all flingy scripts are in the sprite category, and all the sprite scripts are in the image category. So, every script you can edit is in the image category in ICECC. The different categories mainly have to do with how you want to search for one (since they are in the same order as in Datedit).

Either that or just type in the iscript number into that box underneath the categories. Its all the same thing.

and one more question... If I do a weapon with a spell let's say burst laser with ensnare, is the image of burst laser AND queen spell carrier gonna be shot to the enmey?

If that is so, can I merge multiple weapons into a single weapon by iscripting?

None.

"Useweapon" causes the projectile to spawn on the target. So no, there will be no Ensnare projectile like when cast from a Queen.

BTW, I was incorrect in my previous post. The weapon does not need to be set to "Appear on Target", it will simply work that way regardless of its Weapons.dat behavior.

what do you mean by projectile?

and what kind of spell can go with a regular weapon, if ensnare can't?

Nvm, I got everything, thx guys.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[04:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
