Apparently, Firegraft is incompatible with the newest patch. So how do you do tech tree and button set editing and advanced stuff like that?

I am aware that this is the noob-ish-est question since modding was invented, you don't need to tell me.

You edit on an older patch until a compatible version of FireGraft is released.

But then how does anyone play your mod? Bnet automatically updates your patch when you use multiplayer... (Sorry if I sound whiney.)

You advise that they use Farty's Downgrader and play on a private server (like Shadowflare's). No other way around it, unless you're capable of programming a new memory patcher like FireGraft.

*swears loudly* Good thing Mod Night's on a private server... *swears loudly again* *and again* *and again*

EV im wrong but, when you use firegraft (like me with 1.15.0) you can play the mod with the newest patch right?
but i did see some genial mods like Ad astras or oter mods who require 1.15.0 or older version o SC. Why is that so?Is it cause of the color code or what?

I'm not really sure what you're getting at.

Anyways, you CAN run firegrafted mods designed for an older version of StarCraft, on a newer patch, but the grafted changes won't be there... So it's kind of pointless.

Basically, you downgrade your version of StarCraft to use Firegraft, and when others want to play your mod, they just have to downgrade StarCraft to play it. There's a small handful of other servers that can be used to play older versions of StarCraft online.

Dear Darkmapper:
Every time Blizzard releases a new patch, memory offsets are moved around. FireGraft is a memory patcher, so the only way for it to work is if it knows the correct offsets to everything. Patches change those around, so FireGraft must be updated to work on the new patch, or else it cannot function. Thus, until FireGraft is updated, you must mod on whatever version FireGraft is compatible with, advising your players to play your mod on that version by using Farty's Downgrader (it patches your SC to whatever version you want, really useful). If you're playing a mod, you want to pay attention to what SC version it requires, as otherwise its button, requirement, and tech tree changes will not function, and will appear as normal SC buttons only.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
