i dont know how experienced you guys are at pirating/making copies and reformating dvds but i have a related problem...

okay, vob files are the files on DVDs that actually have the movie...

I have two problems... first is i have a homemade movie that i want on youtube/just watch it. I have the video TS foleder from the movie on my computer and i used to beable to jsut click on the vob file and it would start playing on my old computer but then that computer died and i forgot what program it was.

So i guess if anyone knows a good free program that lets you watch vob files without conversion it would help.

Second is that we have this dvd cam that cant plug into a computer and saves the movies as vob so you cant edit them. Im looking for a programs that lets you convert into avi or something... any of you know something good? (free)

i checked on google, all the programs i dled dont work, thanks for the help, i figure that if anyone knows how to solve a problem like this it would be the youth of the computer age...

A .vob file is pretty much an MPEG-2 video with just some extra information embedded. You could try renaming it to a .mpg (or .mpeg) and see if anything will open it then. The sources you mentioned would not be encrypted, so you shouldn't need any special utility to copy the files from the disc at least.

If you don't have any programs to open that file type, you could look up information on programs that open the type I mentioned.

Download DVD43 and Handbrake. Run DVD43 and Handbrake, in that order. Rip DVDs in format and resolution of your choice.

DVD43 shouldn't be needed in this case. That's just to make the DVD unencrypted, right? In his case it is already not encrypted.

I don't know. I can still access the VOB files through Explorer even if the DVD is encrypted, but Handbrake won't recognize them. It can't hurt to try.

Also, VLC player will be able to play encrypted DVDs if you just want to watch them but not rip them.

thanks for replies. So i figured out you kind of need 2 programs, a decyptor and then a converter. First i used cladDVD.net, a simple decryptor that creates a video TS folder and then i used Freez dvd ripper (which sucks) I got this combination to work but then i talked to someone and they told me to use Auto GK, its free and works really good, it converts, and i think it decrypts, but i havent tried that yet. Handbrake didnt work so good for me.

So now this brings up another question. Anyone know a good DVD making program (free) that i can download? I have Windows DVD Maker and Unlead DVD Factory but both are really slow. I dont really care about having menus, i just want a good but fast dvd burner. Thanks

NimoStar -- If its any consolation, the human brain would still mop the floor with this bot if it wasn't limited by the mechanical interface

NimoStar -- Well. The bot didn't come up with any new strategy. It just has superhuman micro. Hard to beat that. I reckon even the simplest dedicated chess engines are unbeatable for humans now.

Oops, caught me there, no I haven't. :( I was imagining how the game went. Sorry for that. Watching it now. brb

NimoStar shouted: They were not "Unprepared" that was their fifth loss in a row against the bot. The other replays are also available
that doesn't mean he was prepared. When humans come around with new strategies it often takes weeks until the pros figure out how to shut it down. Oh_Man that's certainly a way more convincing argument for micro being "too good to beat".
