Moderating out of a Topic

I've gone through a few topics, and while it's nice to know that moderators are working, I really don't need to see half a page or more of posts in a topic dedicated to moderating. It's really detracting from the topic to see this:

X: Please stop making so many consecutive posts.
Y: Blah blah blah. [Insert question]
X: Yes, please use the quote tags.
Y: [Insert other stupid questions]
X: Thank you
Y: You're welcome
Z: What the Hell was that about? Billy Joel is so much better than Elton John because [insert line of intelligent reasoning here].

Many people are stupid. Why draw out their stupidity longer so the rest of us have to read through more of their garbage? PMs are our friends, and we need to learn how to use them. Thank you.

I think that enough public displays of moderation will lead people to stop doing stupid things. Especially once IP finishes coding all the moderation powers... just give it time. ;)

My problem is when the people making such posts are not moderators..

Oh.... yeah, they'll get dealt with too. That's a good time to use the delete & PM combo method.

Everything I've been doing is an attempt to kill the need to make posts about what you are doing as a moderator (examples: closing a topic lists the reason in the thread, moving a thread sends a notice to the topic creator with the reason why you moved it, etc).

As far as non-moderators, say spamming about why some post is off topic, their posts are off topic as well and should just be deleted. Again, enter in the reason and it sends a notice.
And I find such instances really annoying, you're right... having 8 posts about why one post was off topic is not helping and they are, at the least, being hypocrites. Report the post, there's no need to comment on it.

I think that you should only make SC related forums mineral forums, as that could get rid of a lot of the spam on other forums and this is an SC site.

Constructing a counterexample is answering the question: "Is Navier Stokes well posed?" in the negative
