On the subject of new posts, can I also throw in that when you are the last person to post in a forum, even when everything is read, the forum is not automatically marked as read.

No, you cannot throw that in.

Another thing is I think the little dot on the left side of posts (with the "This thread has new posts" tooltip) should link to the first unread post, not the last post in the thread.
