It hurt you to watch, your heart shattered into shards-
The moonlight off Lake Michigan glimmering in my eyes,
Midway between stale beer and a bad round of cards,
You were patiently waiting for your turn to arise.

Dregs from yesterday in the bottom of an emeritus bottle-
You let them stay in my psyche abrasive and molding,
Until I threw it out with force that made the moon shatter,
Scattering six thousand particles through summer into spring.

Thank you for helping me forget
The things I thought I needed,
Watch the memories writhe and wither away-
Into dust fragile ash rub it in between my fingers
The thick fine powder forms my tomorrow,
But this tomorrow's with you.

When you got me you planned on us to fall through-
Ye of little faith, six months was all you gave,
Yet you prayed to God it wouldn't stop there too,
Now without any qualm or clashing we approach eight.

Why do I have this much trouble putting it in rhyme-
I think about you when you're at work and not in sight,
Listening to angel, idly instigating my mind to pass the time,
Losing coveted sleep staying awake to see you tonight.
