So my roomate and I have been using the same connection for a while now him on wireless me on wire and its been mostly fine. But recently he complained about disconnecting a lot so I decided to try to move the router closer to him (basically in between us) which means I'm on wireless too now. I went from 4-5k kbps to 500-1.5k kbps. Right now my upload rate is higher than my download rate. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? I'm using a wireless g linksys card and a wireless b linksys router.

Did you try hitting it?
Maybe you can edit settings here:

That link might not work for him...
And, Trying going g-g or b-b. I don't know the effect on mixing signals, but it might help.

I've already tried hitting it, calling it names, and fiddling with the wireless settings.
Kilabyte, that won't do anything considering its a B router (means it can only do B - G routers can do B or G - N routers can do all 3 I would assume). I can switch the card from B/G to just B but that really won't change anything.

It seems to be fluctuating right now ... as long as it stays over 2.5 I guess I'm fine with it, I rarely need more than that anyway. But it keeps fluctuating and I can't figure out why.

maybe your cable company is doing something
confirm by doing a wired line from the modem so we know its not the router's fault
if its not the modem then i suggest getting a new router because b routers are getting quite old.
