Sound stopped working.

Suddenly my speakers have suddenly stopped working. The power is on, and everything is plugged in correctly. I do not have Mute On either. The device I'm using is Realtek HD Audio rear output. I've checked their website, no luck. Tips?

My speakers are Altec Lansing.

Is it your speakers, or your computer? Try plugging headphones directly into your computer.

Sometimes my speakers stop working too, restarting my comp solves it. Don't ask why. So you could try that if you haven't.

Like KK said. If you cant use headphones, then its your PC's fault. Maybe you disconnected a power/audio cable...

Cables seem fine.

Headphones did not work when plugging them into the headphone jack.

I tried my speakers with a CD boombox and they worked.

I went onto the Realtek website and the latest driver is 3/13/08, for HD Audio Codec driver. Do you think this will resolve my problem? I don't even know if it this is the right driver though.

...lol...

Its an internal problem then, You've isolated something. GJ!
(Or, did you remember to turn volume ON with the headphone jacked in?)

Nevermind, the error seems to have fixed itself. O_o

I restarted the desktop and it seems fine now. Thanks everyone.

The problem will probably happen again; this happens to me once in a while. This should solve it every time.

Sometimes my sound quits working, but restarting my computer fixes it. It's been like this for probably a year now.

The far, far more irritating problems:

1) Sometimes when I turn my comp on after it's been off awhile, the sound doesn't work, and instead, there's this weird buzzing sound. I have to turn off my comp and then turn it on again. It seems like if I wait more than 10 - 15 seconds after it powers down, the the sound is still screwed up. I have to be fast. Basically, every time I turn my comp on to use it, I always end up turning it on twice if I want sound.

2) My right speaker doesn't work unless I turn it up REALLY loud or slap it really hard. It's almost like it needs to be vibrating in order to work (That's what she said!). Same with my headphones. The right ear won't work unless pressure is being applied to the plug where it connects to the right speaker.

ANY IDEAS!?!?

Looks like there is a whole club for sound card problems fixed with reboots. The weird buzzing sound happens to me too when my sound busts (twice in 4 months), although the fixing mechanism isn't quite as elaborate (simple reboot).

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings
