Looking for mapper for [upcoming] RTS

Hey there,

I’m the programmer of "Hypercoven". It’s a little RTS that draws much inspiration from StarCraft, but also has many unique features. I wrote a bit about it on TL.

I’m looking for mappers that would create maps that ship with the game.
And mapping in Hypercoven is quite interesting for a number of reasons!

Maps can warp around

Meaning, a map can "loop" endlessly, somewhat like a planet.
Short video demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRW-cZqsWf4

This can enable very crazy designs, but it’s entirely optional. Not every map works well with it.

The map is the balance

There are no fixed races in Hypercoven, rather every map has "Coven" strewn across it that can be conquered. Each Coven has 2 unique units that it produces.
Currently there are 22 different Coven in the game, and it’s up to the map to choose some and place them. So really every map makes it own balance – there’s the possibility of creating extremely unbalanced / asymmetric terrain, and balancing that by placing specific Coven.

I can do the Coven part, though, if you prefer to only build terrain.

Green Field

No clue what makes a map "good" in this game, it’s just about experimenting, trying different things. There is no need to really playtest the maps or super-polish them, just map a bit and see how it turns out.

All that being said, the tooling to create maps is yet a bit wonky. There is also no money in this currently.
Looking for someone who’s in it pour l’art, like I am.

If you’re interested, just send me a DM. Thanks for reading!

NudeRaider -- blessed innocent soul knows nothing of the strife we had before EUDs were discovered :teehee:

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
