The Curious

Put these files into a mod MPQ under \unit\neutral\
(assuming you have Starcraft 1.16 or earlier, because .grp files are for non-remastered)

Trial and error... mostly error.

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

Hi!

Sorry for the late reply but what you're trying to do is a simple graphic replace.

You will want to use an MPQ editor such as WinMPQ, or PyMPQ (Recommended) to make a new MPQ file and add your files under the "unit\neutral\" sub folders.

The process to do this is very straight foward and i have attached an image of PyMPQ and adding a file.

Take not that in order to replace the mineral graphics (or any other graphic change which is just a replacement) the .grp file must meet two conditions:
1. Be on the same path and have the same exact name as the graphic you're trying to replace (in your case your .grp files are properly named)
2. Have the same amount of frames, otherwise a change of the iscript.bin file will have to be done. (in your case the .grp files have the same amount of frames, I checked)

Now in order to run your mod you will need to launch SC using the MPQ you just created this can be done with a tool called MPQDraft, which is also pretty straight forward on its process or with another tool called Firegraft (Recommended) which makes executable files that you can just run and launch SC. To make a executable file on firegraft and run your mod simply open Firegraft and since you're doing no other changes just go into File and save the executable. After this a new window will prompt you if you want to embed an MPQ to the file you're saving and you will be able to select your newly created MPQ in here and then launch your mod by running the .exe file firegraft will create.

Please note that firegraft and the files it creates are usually flagged as false positives by antiviruses.

fuck you all

So I am new to the brood war modding but I was wondering where is a good place I can find the latest versions of (Firegraft or MPQ DRAFT) because the files I have found are from 2015 or they are not remastered supported wich is fine I can stay with the 1.16 files but even after i downlaod these programs im not sure wherre to find this files under the "unit\neutral\" sub folders if you can help me with findinf draft mpq or just tell me about useing firegraft for 1.16 i think i will be 2 steps closer to my dream... and thankyou hopefully this gets a responce worthy of your time

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[04:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
