So someone, forgot who, once talked about how he wanted a lamp thing and wondered how one would go about it. I suggested an idea, but he said that's not what he's looking for, and so here's the idea.

It will be in installations. A few scvs or probes will all together possess one lamp. The players are perhaps limited a certain time before they have to find another lamp... any player that does not possess the lamp has shared vision turned off on himself, so sticking close to the lamp holder would be best. The lamp holder also has the option to pass on the lamp. So what happens when players have no lamp? If they're smart enough to number their unit, then they can still navigate in the dark... through various traps. The game will consist of traps and sometimes forciful break-ups of the group.

This is not a difficult concept, but I'd like to know if anyone's already done it

Cool idea, I've seen 'dark' used in a few maps, as a temporary superweapon or as an extra degree of difficulty in the last bit of a map [there was a cat and mouse map that utilised this]

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[04:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
