I'm looking for holiday graphics that I could implement into BWAPI.

Currently, as an easter egg, BWAPI draws animated Christmas lights at the top of the screen around Christmas time.
This is cool, but I want a solution that will replace existing game graphics.

The problem is I can't find any holiday graphics. For example, a Nexus with Christmas lights strung over it, or doodad tree sprites with a star, snowman, etc.

The original graphics MUST be preserved, that is, we can't replace a Command Center with a giant jack-o-lantern, because then you wouldn't be able to tell that it is a command center.


I'm asking if anyone can provide such graphics? Any holiday is acceptable.

Some ideas (also check any stereotypical stuff):
Christmas
  • Christmas lights strung across terran/protoss buildings
  • Some heroes (infested kerrigan) with a santa hat or something
  • Christmas tree decor on tree doodads
  • Presents as powerups (gas sac, mineral chunk, etc)
  • Presents around buildings and doodads
  • Ice tileset would be best to work with

Halloween
  • Faces on trees/rocks
  • Jack-o-lanters next to buildings/doodads
  • Pumpkins or candy as powerups
  • Ashworld would be best to work with
  • Heroes wearing costumes/masks

New Year's
  • Some explosions as fireworks.
  • Some heroes wearing party hats

Easter
  • Easter eggs as powerups
  • Eggs hidden in doodads
  • Baskets/chocolate placed around buildings/doodads
  • Workers carry easter baskets

Valentine's
  • Heart chocolate and cards around buildings/doodads
  • Medic healing as a heart
  • Possibly some other bullets as a heart

St.Patrick's
  • Some small bush doodads as clovers
  • Lucky charms hidden in doodads
  • Pot of gold every so often around doodads

...and any other holiday that has a theme. Also keep in mind most of them can be put onto the sign doodads found in badlands.

To be honest I don't expect anything, but if there is, and if I think it's good then it will be packed in for BWAPI4. I will extend the in-game credits to include everyone who has contributed to BWAPI.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.
