I want to buy some ram, does it matter what RAM I buy or does it have to be specific?

None.

RAM has to be compatible with your memory controller(or for non-techie purposes, motherboard/cpu(for AMD at the moment).) First, you has to be the correct type of module (DDR, DDR2, DDR3 to name a few different types.)

A few things to look for is the frequency and timings of your existing RAM modules. Buying slower modules than the ones you already have will require you to run the old modules at lower speeds(If you are planning on adding modules instead of completely replacing them.) If you were to buy modules rated at higher speeds, they would have to be slowed down for your existing modules.

Also, your motherboard may only support a certain amount of RAM, that is also something to watch out for.

And you have to make sure there is an actual physical slot to place them in, y'know..

Also, depending on your motherboard or not, you could purchase RAM to run in dual channel, which adds a bit of performance.. at least in synthetic benchmarks. Not having RAM running in dual channel isn't something to lose sleep over, though.

So yeah, it is a bit specific and more tricky than just buying any old stick of RAM

Well the reason I was buying it was because they were selling 1gb of RAM for 28 dollars, I talked to the guy and he said it's compatible with my computer, now I just hope I have 1 spare spot and a 512mb like they told me before so that I can get my moneys worth, if not, I might see if my girlfriends computer can handle it, her's has a VERY shit amount of RAM (256mb) and if I could get a 512 or 1024 to work on hers, im sure her whole family would appreciate it.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings
