Richard O'Dwyer Extradition

Still Napping

So if you keep up with the tech news you might have heard about this. The US government (presumably at the behest of the MPAA/RIAA) is extraditing Richard O'Dwyer, owner of TVShack.net (taken down by US government, and replaced with a banner and subsequent propaganda video). Here's the catch, and I hope you're ready for this.

TVShack.net did not host ANY copyrighted material itself, but merely posted LINKS to the content (like The Pirate Bay).

Richard O'Dwyer is not a US citizen. In fact, he's never been to the US. At all. He's a citizen of the UK.

His servers are not hosted in the US, they're hosted in the UK.

His website is NOT ILLEGAL according to UK law.

Wow. I am enraged beyond belief. I hate the US government right now, and I hate anyone in power not doing anything to stop it. But fortunately not everyone is a callous MPAA/RIAA buttrape toy. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales created a petition to appeal to the UK government to block the extradition. With over 200k signatures the petition was still ignored by home secretary Theresa May.

I still implore all of you to sign the petition anyway, and SPREAD THIS AROUND. Do not let our most basic of human rights wither away without raising your voice and shouting at the top of your lungs, before the powers at be take the power of your voice away.

This injustice must be stopped. Maybe these people won't listen to reason, but perhaps if we show them that WE, THE PEOPLE do not let this go unnoticed. In the words of Anonymous: do not forgive, do not forget.

None.

Not yet, the agreement has been signed by that fat tub running the Home Office, but O'Dwyer appealed the district court's decision.

Doesn't the UK govt have anything to say about this?

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

The rationality* behind the extradition is that the TLD (net) is owned by Verisign, which is an American company. So be prepared to know every U.S. law no matter which country you live in, because it apparently also applies to you.

*May or may not contain any actual rational.

Wait, we have freedom of speech? Since when?

Show them your butt, and when you do, slap it so it creates a sound akin to a chorus of screaming spider monkeys flogging a chime with cacti. Only then can you find your destiny at the tip of the shaft.

NudeRaider -- blessed innocent soul knows nothing of the strife we had before EUDs were discovered :teehee:

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
