A small question.

Is it possible for one to make a spell like spawn broodlings which instead targets air and produces Scourges?
And that said, would it be possible for someone to make spawn broodlings and the hypothetical spawn scourges spell an attack for, say, Kerrigan?

None.

-Replace the broodlings data with exact copies of the scourges data.
-Then take spawn broodlings away from queens.
-Make spawn broodlings target air units.
-Give spawn broodlings to kerrigan.
-Idk what else
Queens won't be able to cast spawn broodlings though.

would you be able to duplicate the spell to do that? How could one do it? Would one be able to do it with DatEdit?

I think you can do it almost entirely with datedit, but youll need to use firegreaft to give the spell + button to kerrigan... Unless it's an attack of course.
I'm assuming you mean infested kerrigan in which I must also ask the question: does infested kerrigan have an air attack animation?

I dont know, but I can surely check, and if she doesn't, I can just give her the GndAttk one or the AirAttk one. I think I have the hang of this iscript thing but I'm not entirely good with differentiating attacks.
Could I somehow duplicate it onto the Parasite move, and then replace the broodlings in question with scourges? or does it ruin the other Broodlings spell? How would I replace the broodlings with the scourges? DO I have to somehow change the "explosion"?
Afternote: I just checked the iscript, and Infested Kerrigan has her GndAttk animation for the air attk. Also I discovered something astonishing: She has a burrow animation too! I wonder if I should implement this.

New Issue: I'm curious about making certain effects in spells, as I've decided to add units. For example, a Dark Shrine (from the Xel'Naga Temple) which would thus contain upgrades and research for DTs, DAs and "Dark Shaman"(from hero DTs) which would have healing, Maelstrom, and maybe some kind of protoss-exclusive repair spell, and having Warp Gates have a "nydus" function or having Recall. Or having a certain unit and a new structure have an exclusive mind control spell that only affects zerg, or giving the Psi Disrupter some kind of slowing spell. Are any of the spell possibilities I mentioned possible? If so, how?

For the repair spell you can mess around with the properties of Regenerate Shields or something. I'm sure there's some FireGraft-related function for that.
Warp Gates with Recall is simple. Add in a castspell script in iscript.bin, add the button in FireGraft, check 'Spellcaster' in DatEdit... Should work.
I don't think you can make a spell target only Zerg, but it's possible to set it so that they can only target biological.
The only slowing spell that exists now is Ensnare. If you use the properties of that but replace the graphics with something else... (not sure if that's even possible) you should be golden.

Ok.
Thanks for the information.
I'm not sure I can find anything in firegraft that could produce the results I'm looking for. help?

In your other thread, I explained a way to have the overlay be different depending on the caster. (You probably shouldn't make so many threads. ;b )

You can edit the unit Spawn Broodlings summons (and some other stuff, like the number of units to spawn) via EXE Edits in Firegraft. BWAI also has edits that can make Spawn Broodlings not kill the target. ;0 The problem is, any weapon which uses the Broodling mechanic will be affected... I may be able to work out an iscript hack to let it work, though. We'll see.

EDIT: Wait, Broodlings don't fly. Uh... This greatly complicates things.

I have largely abandoned the brooding alterations. I am more concerned about a Protoss exclusive repair spell.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
