Is it possible to increase the maximum amount of characters that are displayed in-game for unit names?

I don't think so.

None.

Awhile back, I remember talking to PQ about the possibility of a plugin being able to change a unit's name. He believed it was possible by putting all the names in one string, and the plugin would shift which charaters were displayed. If you can do that, you can also probably script a marquee.

Another possibility is using the rank field.

Lord of the Locker Room

You can try changing the font using p_q's font doohicky he made for me a while back to a smaller font. I believe then it will work, at least to a limited extent. This assumption is made on the basis that larger fonts can display less characters, as I discovered when I attempted to add Exocet and a large amount of the names cut off.

However, a smaller font will become distorted in most cases. Even if this is possible, you'll need to experiment to find the best font.

Show them your butt, and when you do, slap it so it creates a sound akin to a chorus of screaming spider monkeys flogging a chime with cacti. Only then can you find your destiny at the tip of the shaft.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
