For those who don't know this isn't really a game trailer but a viral marketing scheme.

So when does it go too far and is just going over the edge; another example of this was people protesting Dantes inferno which again was another marketing ploy... I remember this faintly but there was a youtube banner saying that korea invades usa but when you clicked on it you realise it was a game. But when i saw it was genuinely scared.

So whats your thoughts?

Thigh high affectionado

Personally I believe it to be way too over the top. Right now Capcom (Or at least the company helping them make Operation Raccoon City) has been using the internet in their viral marketing scheme, but with intention that many Resident Evil players enjoy, taking down the Umbrella Corporation. The website itself is http://insertedevil.com .

http://www.raccooncitysewersdepartment.com/
http://www.raccooncityartgallery.com/

Both of these, and probably more to come, are part of their clue based puzzle solving, but subliminal advertising while giving prizes out, ad campaign, which actually grips my attention. At the end of every clue you end up with other sites filled with bios and other information and lore on the up coming game.

http://birkinfiles.com for example, or the ipaddress that leads to character bios of the Umbrella task force sent into raccoon after the T-Virus incident.

In the tattoo, you can see the Umbrella Corp. logo on the wolfs head, and a number after the word RIP. Well take out R and suddenly HAY YOU GOT AN IP ADDRESS.

Point is, this is fun and interactive advertisement, while the other is playing on the fact that there are cruel and odd people in the world that actually WOULD play that game, and only wants to get their attention and say that it was and still is wrong.

inb4 DM is a zombie fanatic :awesome:

Also The Game

I remember the halo clue fest was pretty epic; similar to inserted evil.

I saw worse then that game, have you heard of Super Columbine Shooting RPG?

Story: Some jackass decided to think shooting up a high school was going to be fun.
So he made a game about shooting the people in the high school.
http://www.columbinegame.com/
No, I'm fucking serious, they actually made a game about this.

Have you actually played it? If I remember correctly, the point of the game was not to glorify the incident at all, but instead to mock what people thought was going on and really show people how dumb the spin was on it. For example, you can find Marilyn Manson things that boost your desire to kill; a reference to how everyone was blaming his "devil music" as the reason why they wanted to kill people. Is it tasteless? Perhaps. But I understand why the guy made it. It wasn't as well done or as sensitive as the "Bowling for Columbine" documentary, but it was trying to make a similar point ultimately.

Man, this game looks wicked, when's it coming out?

I wouldn't think I'd have to spell it out that was just a joke, but I know damn well that at least three people were going to miss it. And hold on a second, didn't a game about slavery already come out already? I thought we called it Tropico 2 back when it came out.

Well its less of slavery as it is "Stockholm syndrome" where a captive person(s) relates to their captor.

I have this game on my computer called JFK reloaded where you play as lee harvey oswald and you have to replicate the assassination of JFK. You're in a building and JFK drives by in his car in the back seat just like how it happened. Cop escorts, Secret service, everything. You have an unlimited amount of bullets and you get more points depending on how similar your shooting is compared to the actual one. It's a pretty neat simulator since you can show the driver instead and make JFK crash or shoot his wife or shoot all the cops and let JFK live.

yep

I actually know this game and know a lot about it. This was origanally a traffic simulator which bombed hard so it was transformed into a game with more a curiosity factor ergo jfk reloaded. An interview was done where the relatives of Jfk were asked of there thoughts about that game.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[04:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.
