I actually like this game, considering it's one of the only RPG and FPS combination you don't really see. (Except for borderlands, which is Hilarious to play with friends).
To anyone who played the original game, what stats did you start with? I started with Pistol mastery and Survival,
My endgame stats
Heavy - Advanced - 4050 - 4050
Pistol - Trained - 0 - 4050
Rifle - Master - 9975 - 14025
Low-Tech - Trained - 1350 - 15375
Demolition - Advanced 2700 - 18075
Environmental - Advanced - 2025 - 20100
Lockpicking - Trained - 1800 - 21900
Electronics - Trained - 1800 - 23700
Medicine - Trained - 900 - 24600
Computer - Master - 7125 - 31725
Swimming - Advanced - 2025 - 33750 - 165 SP Spare

SIlenced/Stealth Pistol (Modified Clip), GEP gun (Modified almost completely), Sniper rifle (Modified almost completely), Assault Rifle (Modded, forgot which), Assault Shotgun (Modded, forgot which)

In Deux Ex HUman Revolutions:
No skill points. (D:)
In, I don't know, the 6th level?

Longsword Whisperhead.

Anyone else?

I'm trying to force myself to replay the originals. They're great games but some of the mechanics are a tad outdated... I can't wait to get my hands on it though.

I've played a fair amount of the new one now (6-8 hours worth) and I can recommend it wholeheartedly. It's a rare breed among today's games. Mind you I haven't tried gunplay at ALL yet, save for one boss battle :bleh: I've been sneaking, stunning, and in general being awesome without being detected (Ghost Bonus on all missions so far :D)

What is good about it exactly? From the vids I have seen, the graphics look dated (particularly the character animations) and the gameplay looks generic as all hell. A part from nostalgia for Dues Ex fans (I never played the original), I can't see what is particularly unique or appealing about it?

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

O.o I have no clue what you're talking about.
- The graphics make good use of new features like Tesselation and 3D and characters are quite detailed and I see no problem with the animations. Also the lights and shadows are well made to create a the gloomy atmosphere the franchise is known for.
- The gameplay is smart and unique. You decide how to get past an area: Stealth, hacking, combat or explore a way around. This is also why it's so appealing: You can play it in your favorite play style and never feel punished for it.
- It is unique in its way of tying the 4 major aspects of the game together. A failed hack can lead to combat or exploration can show you a stealthy way around an enemy.
- It is appealing because the cover system is well implemented by switching from first person to third person so you can see exactly from what angles you're protected and let you observe the enemy patrol paths. Also the hacking system is very involved and never gets old because every riddle is different, and you need both speed and strategy to solve it. Admittedly combat hasn't been reinvented - pretty generic, but that's to be expected. The exploration part also didn't reinvent the genre but at least there's enough to explore that maps feel like buildings and cities, rather than a chain of rooms and open areas like in many linear games.
- The story is pretty in depth and interesting.
- Boss battles. It IS disputed because that's the only part the game forces you into combat which feels out of place, BUT it's a fun change of pace.
- Your actions actually have consequences (I'm not far enough to know more about it)
- All the above creates a very immersive and especially a believable world.

@OP: I played the original a few times, but I forgot my stats. It's been like 10 years.

Also I fully agree on what you said in your second post. Sneaking around and stunning everyone is much more fun than going all in guns blazing. :D Also did you know that there's an achievement when you don't kill any enemy besides the bosses?

Yeah I've got it on the PC though :D. And I can confirm your actions having consequences, I ran into some tricky situations because of X outcome of an event.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
