No point in reading happy-go-lucky situations. Look at Clannad, at first it looks so normal, but the longer the route goes the sadder it gets.

It's not a good VN unless I can imagine myself in the situation and think of the situation happening to me except with other characters being people I know IRL.
Some VN's are really gay like Fate Stay Night. All the main character does is ";_; I SHOULD HAVE DIED IN THE FIRE" tons and tons of times. Constantly repeating itself just to make it seem much longer than it needed to be.
