So, we can at least create the illusion of a vibrant and active community by updating the main page once a week? No?

Nov 25 2010, 3:55 pm - happy thanks giving
Nov 16 2010, 8:54 pm - november contest and galaxy wiki
Nov 9 2010, 8:59 pm - old patch 1.1.3
Nov 7 2010, 4:37 am - old wiki, congrats to contributors, SEN map night reminder, november contest again?

My main gripe with this current system is that it displays the old news for too long. And now, I'm just putting this out there, if we have stuff on our 'main page' that is 'old new's in some regards, it makes us look like old news?

I'm not having a dig or trying to be offensive. I also don't know who has full priveledges to go editing this main page. I mean, a quick glance shows that Mini Moose, DevliN, Payne, Sand Wraith and ImagoDeo can at leasts post new content. But who can delete old content?

I would like to see a new update which talks about our community projects (there are three so far):

http://www.staredit.net/topic/12899/
http://www.staredit.net/topic/12237/

We should also think about prioritising these projects, so instead of having x projects simultaneously, we prioritise one and work until its completed. It looks a little bit shabby if we start projects and never finish them, a lot of people are like this individually, but if we attack community projects with this sort of mindset, it paints us with the same brush.

None.

Woah

Anyone can post news, but only Administrators and Global Moderators can make the topics visible. We wont ever delete old News threads because because there is no reason to. All of this has been discussed many times before, and every time it is brought up that we unfortunately don't have very newsworthy projects generally

I guess to address things individually:

The November Contest was brought up twice because the second post was a reminder of the half-way point. From the looks of it, we will have very few entries and the contest ends tomorrow.

The current "system" just displays the threads in the News forum in chronological order. If we had new threads in there, the portal page would have newer news.

Moderators can, but we will never delete old News threads.

Unfortunately that isn't going to happen. First off, SEN MOBA is supposed to be a standalone game ultimately, so that shouldn't interfere with SEN Arena and Infiltration RPG. SEN Arena really is an SEN community map because people can contribute full characters and arenas and whatnot, rather than just ideas. Infiltration RPG is considered a community project in that payne wanted help from the community to make it, but I sort of see that as a typical team map being made rather than an SEN thing. I'm all for advertising these projects, and any new maps being made, but since we don't have new things coming each week, we'll run out of new "News" in a week.

What you should also know is that SEN has a history of starting projects it can't finish. I think GalaxyWiki.net is the only thing we've "finished" in a long time.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings
