Shield Costing Heal

I'm trying to make an auto-casting ability that is similar to the Medivac/Medic's Heal ability. I want to use shields instead of energy and to only target Armored type units. However, I can't get the ability to work on the unit, it targets it just fine, but it will not heal the target for some reason. Looking for help now because I have apparently given up.

1. Copy the Medivac healing ability. Duplicated the linked effect 'Medivac - Heal (Create Healer)'.
2. Open up the duplicated effect, and go to the 'effects' section.
3. Change the 'Drain Vital' field to read Shields.

Voila! Your very own shield-to-health heal ability. Rename some things, change the button, and you can use it wherever you want.

Making it only target armored units is more difficult. There's a section under 'Effects' labeled 'Validators' - I'm guessing you'll need to make a custom validator for it. I'll look into it and get back to you.

Edit: Aha! Found it.

Go into the Validators tab. Add a new validator. Set it to Type - Unit Filters. Then go into the Validator info and modify the Filters section to have Armored as Required. To prevent your effect from healing dead units and other stuff like that, you'll have to set a number of things to 'Excluded'. To simplify this, you can copy another validator of the same type (Unit Filters) and modify it from there.

Wow, thanks a lot! However, I seemed to notice that there is a target filter in the Meadivac - Heal ability so there is no need for a validator. But anyways, you helped a lot!!!

EDIT: It doesn't seem to work when I put it on a structure and as a Neutral player. It won't heal the units but it worked when everyone had control.

Make sure the target filter is set properly (so nothing is excluded).

Ultraviolet -- just sent you a message on Discord. I suspect you're probably trying to change unit speeds for units that don't use flingy.dat for movement (like any units that walk instead of hovering/flying). You can change their movement to flingy, but they unfortunately look more like they're gliding than walking when you do that.

Symmetry -- EE2, I've been using setdatfile successfully for units.dat and weapons.dat but the flingy changes don't seem to happen

Ultraviolet -- in EE2 you just open DatEdit, go to the flingy tab, and make whatever changes you want. Though if you want to do dynamic shit, you have to use the trigger editor with the setdatfile action. And of course you have to inject your changes when done. Can give more specific troubleshooting advice if you provide more details
