O->Internal filters->uncheck DXVA. VLC 2.0 is supposed to support DXVA.

Looks like it plays (though not flawlessly) in VLC without subs. Messing around with the video output (d3d output, rather than "default") I got all the videos to display properly. The 1080p stuff still stutters occasionally, but no longer uses 100%.

The karaoke subs really kill your processor.
