Does anyone know if SC2 has a system for converting Korean text to English text and vice versa? Granted I know sentence structure and letter character equivalence are non-existent but if Google can do it for 20+ languages, Blizzard is capable of it.

Basically, I'd tend to say
Google > Blizzard,
but anyways, that's just me! ;)

I'd just feel better knowing the korean text actually comes out as korean text instead of random symbols. Not like it matters anyway cause all your going to do is unplug when they zerg rush you within the first five minutes.

Can you not install the korean language patch on your computer, same as for Brood war?

Google also have extensive server farms and many employees dedicated to the task. They also aren't providing translations in real-time.

To say that "Google can do it, so can Blizzard!" is really quite ridiculous.

@Lanthanide- go to google.com/ type in translator/ click first sponsor link/ slap yourself. Google does it in real time and for 34 languages.
@Jack[RCDF- does that language patch translate it into english though?
@Ezterix- Even though the conversion seems random it actually isnt too bad. After spending 3 months on the Korean server i memorized a few things that they would say. Probably the most useful one was "go"

Ah, no, it just turns gibberish into correct korean symbols.

Hear me Raor!!

Starcraft 2 is going to be region locked... So you should never play with Koreans!

@ Jack and Ashamed! That is a shame. Seriously, i wish that it would be easy to get a translation and i honestly wish they dont necessarily block us. That is actually a dick move. Korean maps are amazing and i love being able to play on the East and West.

Why would they do that? Reduce lag?

I am not sure if you play in the west or not, but the probably about half of our games are in Korean text, not only is it frustrating and ugly but its a huge waste of games that are listed.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.
[2026-6-20. : 3:43 pm]
NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
