Testing SCII Maps

Whenever I am making SCI maps it is fairly simple to test the map with two people because, I just take out the disc, and put it in the other computer. Now, I highly doubt I can do that and I won't have two computers that can run the game. I test my map quite frequently, so going on B-Net and having a friend re-dl it every time would be boring for him, and would take a long time...

Any suggestions on testing multi-player maps?

Or,

Hopefully Blizzard thought of a simple way of doing this.

I believe that Galaxy Editor has it's own debugging feature, along with the ability to play individually as each player.

There isn't even a map editor yet, so how do you plan on making maps in the first place?

Besides you don't need a CD for StarCraft since like a year anymore. Same for SC2.

I've heard a small rumor that there will be a feature you can enable, that is only for single people testing out a multi player map, although in my opinion it doesn't sound very good.

You will be able to record what actions you make as player one, and restart the game as player two, and a cpu will copy every action you make as player one while you play as player two. (this could be extended further)

It's just a rumor :ermm:

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

You can enable that you can give other units commands. You would simply enable that for your testings, I guess.
At least the giving not owned units commands was shown in an old vid (I think it may be the same vid where he typed in a cheat command).

Pfft? Who needs an Editor to make Maps? That would be the first Tower Defense map ever created on SC2. We've got quite a few other custom maps already on Mapster as well. Some other TD's that were based off MapsterTD, as well as Corbo's Third Person Shooter, and Yugg's Contra (RPG) map.

Thanks, but I knew about it the day the map came out. But to properly answer your question: I would need an editor. And so does pretty much anyone who doesn't (want to) delve too deep into SCII's inner workings.

But that's aside the point. He needs an editor that lets him test multiplayer maps with only 1 human player. So unless MilkyWay edit features that already your post was just blatant advertising.

I wasn't responding to the OP, I was responding to you, hence why I quoted you, and not the OP. Your question was, "there isn't even an editor, how do you plan on making maps in the first place?"

My response was, "You don't need the Editor to make a map."

If there isn't a control others' units feature, you could just learn some of the map scripting, and write up a cheat that disables all AI for a player (except fundamental, per-unit AI) and lets you control them, even though they show up on your GUI as enemies, etc..

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.
[2026-6-20. : 3:47 pm]
NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.
[2026-6-20. : 3:43 pm]
NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
